WARNING: Some People Find #Hashtags Annoying

A #Hashtag is a way for people to group words and phrases in their status updates on Social Networks. They allow users to search for Tweets and Facebook posts that have a common topic or theme and to start a conversation.

To insert a #Hashtag, you prefix a word using the number sign (#), for instance #Hashtag. When you do this, you create a hyperlink of the word or phrase, and when you click it you can see who else is talking about these words and phrases in their status updates.

Twitter and Instagram users are familiar with #Hashtags as they've been used for quite sometime on these social networks. #Hashtags on Facebook is relatively new, and many Facebook users are not familiar with what they are or how to use them.

Many people find #Hashtags annoying because they don't know what they are and find them confusing, while some find them annoying when others constantly over use #Hashtags in their posts.

Change Your Habits & Grow Your Business

As business owners and managers, there are natural patterns that develop within our business and personal habits. Over time, we actually get locked into specific behavioral patterns that produce specific results. Many patterns are favorable and we reap positive rewards, while others not so favorable and are fruitless.

Unfortunately, these fruitless behaviors are not the results we are looking for …since those results tend to be a lack of revenue and profits for the business.

The main problem is the unproductive behavioral patterns we use daily, they become ingrained into our subconscious mind as habit patterns. These habits must be changed, and they must be changed on a subconscious level so we can replace the old unproductive habits with new productive ones. But is this really possible?

Here's how the sequence works, like it or not. Your thoughts produce specific beliefs. Those beliefs produce specific actions, and those actions produce specific results. If you aren't getting the results you want, then you MUST change your thoughts and beliefs so that you begin to take different actions… and taking those actions over a period of time create habits.

What you need to know

Perhaps the following story will put everything into perspective…

Think about a newborn elephant at the zoo or the circus. The first thing the keepers do is drive a huge steel stake deep into the ground and attach a heavy rope to it. The other end of the rope is tied around the back foot of the baby elephant. The baby struggles and strains pulling against the rope trying to break free.

After many attempts, it learns through repetition that the effort is futile, and it finally gives up. It now "believes" it can never break free, and the end result is that it stops trying. From that point forward, the steel stake and massive rope are no longer needed.

If you look at the adult elephants nearby, you will notice they are also tethered to a stake, but in an entirely different way. Instead of a steel stake, there is a small wooden stake. Instead of a massive rope tied around the rear leg, there is a flimsy piece of string. That alone keeps this massive animal in its place.

These elephants have been mentally conditioned to "believe" they cannot break free of their constraints, so they don't even try. They "believe" they will never break free of the rope, and that belief leads to a specific "action" which is to stop wasting energy pulling on the rope, and that leads to a specific "result" which is to keep the elephant in place using minimal restraint.

Why you need to know this

Is the mentality of the small business owner any different?

Small business owners have been mentally conditioned to behave a certain way. They have specific beliefs… such as "in order to make more money, I have to work harder. "Money is the root of all evil." "No pain, no gain." "Money doesn't grow on trees." "If I don't do it myself, it will never get done."

These beliefs lead to specific actions which is to work more hours and put forth more effort in a vain attempt to increase revenue and profits. That leads to specific results which are feelings of overwhelm, anxiety and frustration … that more and more effort is required, even though results don't seem to appear… and in most cases, diminish.

Many Business owners don't have a clue how to remove the mental barriers that are sabotaging their success. They need to get laser-focused on their highest income-producing activities, and learn how to hire, assign, delegate or barter their non income-producing and less productive tasks.

  • What if you could do the same thing?
  • What if you could discover a proven and tested process that could double your revenue?
  • What if you could remove the mental barriers that may be sabotaging your success?
  • What if you could get laser-focused on your highest income-producing activities?
  • How can you learn to develop these critical skills that can revolutionize your business?

Kick Start Your Marketing

Today I’d like to teach you about the three most important start up marketing tools you need to get and keep new customers.
  1. In person: It’s essential you meet with customers/clients in person whenever possible. This shows you respect them and take the time to work with your clients to give personal attention to each of them.

  2. Follow up letter: Always take a moment to send a follow up letter about what you talked about, new agreements or partnerships made and to thank them for taking the time to meet with you. Likewise, you should always send thank you letters or small gifts to partners you find success with.
  3. Phone call: Use a telephone call to follow up with them to talk again about the matters you talked about in your meeting and offer any assistance you can to help their business run smoothly and more successfully.

None of these will work if you don’t have a quality product/service to back you up! Here are the key steps for putting together your start-up marketing tools:
  1. Research potential customers, buyers, competitors and their preferred methods of distribution.
  2. Talk to potential customers. Take a hard look at your product from a customer’s perspective and see what it needs to be successful.
  3. Follow up with your 3-step process from above.
  4. Develop systems for contact follow through, quality control standards and customer service.
  5. Develop post-sale follow up system to keep lines of communication open with customers and build on your current relationship which increases future purchases.
“Marketing and innovation produce results; all the rest are costs”  Peter Drucker, management consultant.

Here’s another one I love from an icon: “If there is any one secret of success, it lies in the ability to get the other person’s point of view and see things from that person’s angle as well as from your own.” Henry Ford, Founder of Ford Motor Company.

This lesson has offered you the tools to put together a start-up marketing plan that can be used over and over again to help your customer base and business grow in a manageable way. The tools offered in our Marketing Academy offer these very same things and much more.
